We sell bare root trees that are delivered in the winter. Bare root trees are dug up from the ground during their dormant and are not in containers.
For winter 2021, we will have 5-6ft tall trees available for sale. Trees are usually available for pick up early January. We are now accepting orders for bare root trees. See Fruit Tree Order Form page for more information.
We offer several varieties of peaches, apples, figs, plums, apricots, and one variety of thornless blackberries. If there is something you want that is not on the list, then contact us. Special requests may be able to be accommodated if ordered in groups of 10.
Advantages to Bare Root Trees:
-You pay less for bare root trees than the same size tree that is potted.
-Bare root trees are easier to plant since they do not have the weight or bulk of the dirt and pot.
-They are planted while dormant so they need less maintenance.
How to Plant Bare-Root Trees:
-Dig the hole large enough for the tree's current root system plus some extra room for growth. On average, this will be 18 inches across and 1 foot deep. Your initial hole needs to be dug prior to picking up your trees. You can make adjustments once you see the size of your tree's root system.
-Trees need to be planted within 24 hours of delivery.
-The roots need to soak in water for 1-3 hours prior to planting
-Spread out the roots so they will grow outward.
-There will be a bump in the lower trunk before the roots start. This bump needs to be planed 2-3 inches above the ground.
-Fill in dirt around the root system.
-Tamp down the dirt to eliminate air pockets.
-Water tree
CARING FOR YOUR TREES
Pruining Fruit Trees:
-Pruning fruit trees helps to increase production
-Enables air to circulate and light to penetrate
-Lowers the fruiting limbs to a height that enables the peaches foto be harvested more easily.
-Removes dead or diseased limbs or shoots.
For detailed information of pruning fruit trees, click on Texas A&M University Horticulture .
Pest Control:
-Spraying fruit trees prevents pests, fungus and fruit rot. You can use Bonide Complete Fruit Tree Spray. For an organic spray, you can use vegetable oil with a little Dawn dish soap. Completely saturate the trunk and limbs. If you have blooms on your fruit trees, wait until after the bloom drop before using insecticides so the bees will not be harms. For more information on pest control, check out Agrilife's website.
